A5 pt2 Studio Review

1> From your studio, reflect on an aspect of two other students/group’s media work on the website in terms of specific insights they produced about a key idea addressed by the studio?

Clara and Tiffany’s ‘Android’ is very attractive, and the main idea is to build a simulated robot that looks like you like to accompany you. It can be an image of a family member who is no longer with you, and you want to keep him with you. It could be that you are an only child and want the company of a sibling. Or maybe you as a parent, are trying to mould your child’s image of a nanny. Such technology has the potential to offer customers more than real people the benefits of multiple business models, such as cutting living costs and improving the service quality. And their after-sales service is very meticulous, each product sold has a unique TWO-DIMENSIONAL code. After the mobile phone is bound, you can check the situation at home in real-time. Even better than current home monitoring, it is active and can be monitored without blind spots. The information received by phone is also updated in real-time. For example, if there are children, the elderly, or the disabled in the family who have an emergency, they can inform and help at the first time. If found serious, can automatically alarm. Especially with the popularity of mobile devices, especially those with the ability to take photos, QR codes are very popular in Asia. This makes it easier for everyone. The team also conducted market research to find out which types of robots were more in demand. This kind of research is necessary before a product is produced, and if most people in the market do not like the company of robots, the development of this program will be wasted. During the pandemic, many people lost their families, and many young children and elderly people had to go to quarantine hotels on their own. If a robot can accompany them at this time, the family will be relieved.

Zihao Zhao’s ‘InVisible’, a mobile app designed to activate cities in the wake of the pandemic, allows people to talk about social issues such as climate change, which is very thought-provoking. He spent the whole semester reading extracurricular materials to connect data visualization with actual locations and finally wanted to achieve the idea of visualizing the carbon footprint of Melbourne. His starting point was so advanced that he would never have learned about the topic had he not read so much extra-curricular material. The design of his App is very simple and clear. Although there are not many functions, each one is very practical. The first is an AR technology to track the carbon footprint. Tracking the carbon footprint is already a difficult task, and it is even harder to visualize the carbon footprint. Another is that users upload a photo to the software, which automatically analyses the carbon footprint of each photo to determine whether it is good for the environment. The current global environmental issues are indeed worthy of attention and discussion if this software can really appear in the application market and be widely promoted. It is very beneficial to our environmental transformation and can wake up some people who do not pay much attention to environmental protection.

2> Choose one other studio from this list (we suggest selecting a studio that you would not normally be interested in). Then describe a key idea that you think the finished media/studio work communicated with reference two specific examples (i.e. particular individual/group works)

My chosen work is Hurt by POETIC VIDEO. From the very beginning of this video, the audience can clearly understand that he wants to express that the pain will not be healed by suturing. It’s just a short film shot on a mobile phone, but it’s very deep. It is not only the content of the film that causes people to think deeply but also the editing techniques and music of the video that guides the audience step by step into the world of the film. This is what Communication wants to bring to you in this era of fast media. Even if it is just a short film, it can cause people to think deeply after watching it. Another reference is’ SEEN ‘from the same Studio. The work needs to be carefully considered by the audience. When you first watch it, you may not know what it is trying to say. As for the POETIC VIDEO, I think they pay more attention to the understanding of the media era and want to convey it to the audience. After watching the short film, they need to meditate. Media has made the pace of The Times faster, and we have less time to think. Through their work, they want to awaken people’s deep and thoughtful thoughts.
