Week 10 – Table read + feedback
Week 10 Came with the opportunity to present our current work to a panel, and other peers. Unfortunately, we missed the deadline to send the script in ahead of time, so we had to rush to print some copies out for the panel members. Doing the table read was a positive experience as it gave our group some assurance hearing laughs and reminded us that the jokes we had included were funny. We received a good amount of feedback from the presentation. Some of the positives included cutting on the absurdity, specifically for one part of the interviews in which one person’s beliefs are contradicted by all those that surround him. We also received feedback around possibly abandoning the two episode format, and merging it into one big piece.
In terms of screenwriting advice, making it clear that interviews are all separate shots was a big note, and whilst it was heard, including all the individual cuts in the piece would’ve proved tedious and time consuming, especially when the crew knew from pre-production meetings.
After the feedback we received, we went back to the script and tried to find some ways to incorporate feedback. Some ideas given to us was making clear that the ‘Method Actor’ is actually a method actor in some way, making separate characters more distinct from each other, and improving the media literacy of Mira, the documentarian. However, with shooting planned for shortly after, and a busy week for all crew members, this proved difficult to try and write in, so there was only minimal changes to the script.
With only two weeks to go, we also had to finalise who was doing which jobs. For week 10, the jobs we needed to get done was polishing off the script and shot list, as well as booking all of our equipment and the studio we were hoping to film in.
