So here is the finished edit of my final exercise into match cutting. This time, unlike my first exercise, the focus is not on the graphic match cut itself but rather implementing a match cut type technique to create alternative editing strategies. I also managed to include some audio, as I had thought about audio a bit but hadn’t done an exercise on it yet – I wanted to try and create Emma’s sense of impatience with the sound effects and also create a juxtaposition between the loud effects and the silence representing Kate’s nonchalance.
(There’s a shot of Kate in the clip that I think crosses the line, but needed to keep in for the sake of the action match cut. I noticed how jarring it looks during editing, but probably should have realised earlier given I spent Tuesday helping Emma with her shoot which focuses entirely on the 180 degree rule…)
