Week 11

Music and video can change our mood and find the memories that buried deep in our mind. Whenever we talk about immersive experience, it is easy to discover that our body immerses in some kind of mood when we stay in some environment (a video, an audio, some kind of space or light). Maybe one note, one shot or a moment of light can wake some kind of environment in our mind. In that environment, there are moods, memories and feelings. When we immerse in that environment, external stimulus may determine your mood, while the sense of immersive is more depend on the level of authenticity and intensity of your mood. Actually, the stimulation of both audio and video can bring us in immersive experience. When you build environment through video and audio, you need to focus on the preference and diversity, because the mood environment is determined by mental distance. For example, our mind can create different sound moods under the same music and different videos, and our mind can also create different environmental moods under the same video and different music. It makes us wonder whether our feeling about picture is determined by sound. In fact, just like smell, sound and picture are different ways to express our feeling of the outside world. We will prefer enrichment stuff because video, picture, color and taste itself are not stereoscopic. In addition, our mind is stereoscopic and our mood is also stereoscopic, so one object (just one picture or audio) cannot build authentic image in our mind. So, the lacking object will be compensated by our mind through imagination, then immersive experience can be created. Thus, when different pictures are used to make a video, it will help our mind to fill in these blanks.

Thoughts on reflecting on the essay

In the article, the writer expounds on the concept of immersive experience that arises from both music and video. The paper is also of great significance as it offers a theoretical underpinning of why most players in computer games report of losing the feeling of time passing. According to the author’s research, he concludes that immersion in games is really a subjective ordeal that is built inside the psyche of a player. Thus, it is not an extraordinary occurrence because it involves a player’s emotions andcontemplations being more engaged with the diversion from the game. The article has also been able to confirm on the critical role that music continues to play in setting the tone and also influencing the perception of a film, which has been reiterated by multiple researchers (Grimshaw, 2008; Wang & Sun, 2011). He quotes of how his friend managed to redub the music in a horror movie, and consequently transforming it to a comedy film. Consistent with the author’s opinion, I also believe that having a solid arrangement of sound in agaming setting is actually the main impetus. Thus, having deficient music and sound in any game does not lead to the feeling of submersion of any kind. The paper also challenges scholars of the need to improve investigations in studying the importance of submersion in the use of computerized and virtualized technologies.

week10

The feel of visiting the National Gallery of Victoria.

The National Gallery of Victoriais a renowned museum in Melbourne that houses a wide range of international art including American, Asian and European art. The exhibition also contains fully furnished and decorated rooms that contain a large collection of contemporary artworks on both sides, which constantly reflected the building’s iconic status. Objects in showcases also mirrored the artworks placed on the walls, which brought along an imaginative approach that favoured feeling over knowing. Additionally, this also brought along the feeling of complementarity, and thus creating a deep sense of intimacy and immersion in the extensive artwork (Greenberg, 2005). Inorder toguide new visitors and making them feel comfortable, the museum had also managed to incorporate interactive technologies on most of the art collections. This was contrary to my expectations, where I had initially thought that guides would be explaining and facilitating our learning experience. Thus, seeing the artwork was also coupled with listening, where a voice that reverberated throughout the building invited visitors to relate with the exhibits emotionally (Roppola, 2012). Despite having been my first time to visit the museum, engaging with the interactive displays made me feel part of the environment. Additionally, there was ambient music playing in the background, which consequently brightened the environment, which consequentlyinducedcalmness and promoted an active aesthetic experience.

week 7

How does the film show the characters’ emotions?

Among the numerous ways that films are able to show the emotions of character is through the use of sound and different shots. As highlighted by Igartua (2010), music has the unique ability to represent the emotional states of characters, evoke a specific emotional response from the audience or suggest a scene’s prevailing mood. An example is provided byFischoff (2005), who claims that the use of loud sound combined with a broader frequency can be used to amplify fearin horror movies like Wolf Creek(2005). Additionally, the author claims that music can also be used to amplify certain emotions in a film by being incongruent with the on-screen moment. For instance, the scholar provides the example of the Jaw (1975) horror film where a characterscreams in terror, while the music at the background is at low pitch. Heimdahl et al (2016) also highlight that the type of shot applied is also another useful way of expressing the emotions of a character and conveying different tones in a scene. I order toexpress passion or warmth, the author highlighted that scenes begin with a dramatic pause, where the audience suddenly becomes aware of the romantic music increasing in volume in the background. This is accompanied by a close-up shot of the face of the character to offer a vivid description of the prevailing emotion.

week8

Thoughts, Commentary and Reactionson Verhagen – What’s Wrong,

In the article, Verhagen (2016) offers a comprehensive analysis of how sound in Science Fiction movies can be successfully applied to play with an audience’s perception of identity and safety. One of the core reasons that make the article interesting to read is that the author has used some of the popular and relatable films like the Terminator and Gravity. This has made it easier to relate with some of the concepts described in the article having previously watched the films. Another reason that makes the Verhagen’s article more interesting is because he has managed to use some of his personal experiences to expound on the amazing ability of sound to influence humanreactions. In particular, he narrates his strange and overwhelming experience when watching the movie Gravity, where he was momentarily convinced that he was actually inside the helmet of one of the actors. I agree with Verhagen’s observation that the use of sound can open up a sense of mysterious possibilities that can be used to engage, absorb and convince audiences, which is consistent with Livingstone, Brown, and Muhlberger(2005) observations. However, I was intrigued by the author’s comments that an audience is able to resonate and connect with a movie more deeply compared to the sum of its visual elements.

Project 4 plan 1

Immersive experience is a sensorial experience, which builds a connection between virtual objects and reality. When something brings us sufficient sensorial experience such as video, sound, scene, drawing, the sensorial experience is connected with realistic experience in our mind, which creates immersive experience. I will not discuss emotion this time. Through editing of realistic scene video and music, I want to combine the video and audio together to bring psychological distance closer. The psychological distance can determine the sensorial experience, while the sensorial experience can determine the immersive experience. This is what we would like to talk about. For example, when people listen to the chorus part of “chandelier”, there are many scenes create in their minds. A girl is dancing in the MV. If it changes into someone dives into the sea, it may bring a better immersive experience. Because of the chorus part and cliff-jumping scene of the song, the psychological distance of stress closer. This kind of scenes can stimulate the secretion of epinephrine, which can bring immersive experience.

week9

Color brings different emotions

Each color represents the meaning of different, which also verify that each color will also affect people’s mood, the color of the visual impact on people, people will have a certain impact, and this effect will be transformed into the mood On, so the color can affect people’s emotions.

Purple to create a luxurious atmosphere, and even decadent. Even if your product has a budget awareness (the effect of “expensive” is exactly the opposite of orange), using purple is a quick way to create an elegant or high-end charm. Faint purple tones – especially lavender – bring spring and romance. Darker hue adds more mystery, and even symbolizes creativity. Darkening the hue will make the romantic elements more emotional, with the personal wealth of contact. Therefore, the purple can make people keep calm, calm with a trace of sadness, arrogant yet elegant. Of course, in some European countries, because purple also represents homosexuality, therefore, purple will also produce exclusion of emotions.

Blue is the color of trust. Blue is a calm and tranquil color, thus provoking a sense of security and security. Thus, blue is the color that banks often use: for example, Citigroup, Chase, Bank and Barclays are blue. However, the calm effect also makes blue a friendly and fascinating color, which explains the adoption of Facebook and Twitter. It seems that this is not reasonable, blue is very versatile; its vitality than other colors have a greater impact. Light blue is the color of water and sky, so it usually has a refreshing and free feeling – if it is bright enough, or even activated, but still maintain a reliable calm. The darker blues tend to be more heavy and enhance the safety, which makes them a great choice of professionalism. Trust is critical to wealth advisors (such as Evolve wealth), so most of its sites are designed in different tones. All of this is at a small price, though: blue should not be used for food related sites. Because blue food is not common in the wild, studies have shown that this color actually plays a role in suppressing appetite. Therefore, the blue can make people more calm mood, the mind will become more broad, like the blue sky as the sea, with unlimited tolerance.

Green is mainly representative of the environment and outdoors, the obvious reason to make it a clear choice for natural and organic quality. In Western culture, it also represents money and financial security. At the same time, green is also the color of the eye protection, so green can make people feel comfortable, comfortable feeling, emotions will become better.

Red increases gravity and enhances consciousness – literally, color increases blood circulation, respiratory rate and metabolism. Red can bear the meaning of love and war, but all the meaning of the unity of the factors are of great significance. Think of red carpet. Red is one of the most cautious colors. Attractive attention to make it a designer priceless, but overuse will inhibit the relaxation. The lighter tones emphasize the energetic redness (including youth), while the darker tones emphasize strength, even durability, such as brick walls. Therefore, the red will bring people passion and motivation, but at the same time, the red will make people fear and fear, because the red also represents the blood and war.
