Week1- reflection

My partner Gigi, Rico and I going to find an object that many people in the class has it, and take a photo by each one. The most object that my classmates have are computers, but I feel it too bored if I just take photos of each laptop, because there are almost look the same. So we chose pen as our object, and ask classmates to take the photos, whatever they are holding it to let go on the notebook…. and make those pen together as a video, so we can use this way to explain the meaning of ‘Tag’ and also the significance of ‘Tag’. I guess it creates a relationship with our classmates by using one object.

During the process of making my online screen media task, in week two, we discuss the meaning of Literature networks. Literature networks can link across the networks and be making your own catalog of pieces of information. As what I said in my development blog, on the internet everything is individual, same as what I’ve done in my test project, each pen is individual, but we can link it together by using Tag and RSS. Indeed, as what Hannah said in this class, we are not making a whole, we are making parts. This sentence makes me think a lot. As what I’ve done in media 1 and 2 courses, each project is connected with others, and finally, I can do a complete piece of my project. However, I feel this semester is totally opposite compare with my last semester. During the text project, I realized it is really interest for me to see in a mass online space, people can still find the useful information for themselves. Again, in the internet world, we can do whatever we want to make.

Therefore, I think I am going to develop about how can I make an online screen media project that each part is individual but can create a relationship between audiences and my work itself as a media practitioner?

Week1- development idea

In this semester, my course ‘Thinking in Fragment’ will focus on How can we think about and make screen media for online spaces? Instead of answer this question, we need to understand what is screen media and what is online spaces.  From my perspective, screen media is at everywhere. I can say everything excluding traditional media, I can also say films, televisions, any content observed on a screen is screen media. When I searched screen media on google, it says Digital screen media is the visual content specifically designed and formatted to be delivered from digital screens such as LED, LCD, and projection screens either indoors or outdoors in corporate and public spaces. By definition, it reflects many ways of revealing the screen media project.

In the Internet age, it makes our life more convenient. Podcast, internet platforms, blogs can even make people’s relationship closer than before. And those tools are all called online spaces. What if we make online spaces and screen media together – becoming online screen media? So, online screen media is the key point in our week one class. Before we make our own online screen media project, I need to first understand what is online screen media. I did some research about it, the web says the production and distribution techniques of video media through online platforms.  To aid the meaning of online screen media project, we separated the word as two-part to discuss, there are forms and content, such as Unregulated length,Cross-platforms, Episodic, Interactive and Entertainment, Niche, Sarcasm, Construal.

I chose a Youtuber’s vlog to represent my perspective of online screen media. Basically, it is a daily normal video that she posted online, so people who follow her can easily to do common, and sharing with other people. I realized that it’s an interactive way to leading individuals become together base on sharing and common. And I think it truly represents what is online media, the Youtuber uses Youtube as a platform to designed and formatted their media work.

However, online screen media not just what I said above, when I saw what Steven Soderbergh’s did for the future of TV, I was shocked at that moment. (link: https://www.wired.com/story/steven-soderbergh-future-of-storytelling/)What he did is, he is creating a new app that can make audiences to choose your own perspective of the storytelling in a television series. I mean that is really an online screen project, I think this app is intelligent, or in some way, it scared me. He connects the television series to the internet, and then the internet connects with audiences, therefore, we are not just watching the television series, we are building ever part of a television storytelling. Although we can not change the whole storytelling of the whole series, the app makes a really strong relationship between audiences and the screen work itself.  Hence, I want chose ‘Tag’ as my research form, because I think the way ‘Tag’ does is make one picture or video or photo connects with other people, other people that you don’t even know.
