Week7- reading

“Nature is energy and struggle. It is what exists without any promise. If it can be thought of by man as an arena, a setting, it has to be thought of as one which lends itself as much to evil as to good. Its energy is fearsomely indifferent.”

― John Berger, Why Look at Animals?

In this chapter, Berger firstly talks about when human think about animals, usually, they will think them as meat or leather or horn. However, now the animals that used to be at the centre of our existence marginalised and reduced to the spectacle in zoos. His theme is the marginalisation of animals.

We do need to really think about that,  the relationship between animals and human. As before, we think animals are the companionship. However now, we put them in the zoo and think them are a kind pf culture. As the quote said if we continue to realize that animals are more further away of our life, then the consequence will be real dangers.

I am from China, when I went to New York to study high school, I found the deer was running between the small path, I feel amazing. Cause it will never ever happen in China, it seems like there is no freedom of animals in China. After I read this article, I advocate more people can be aware of this problems.
