Media Movie Promotion
(JohnnyDepp in China for Pirates of the Caribbean 5)
Watching movies has become an common and important part of our life. Most of my friends enjoy catching up the updated information of their favourite movies and like to watch the first run. The film industry gets the enough attention to earn profits, but it is harder than before to be the outstanding one. For me, I think the promotion part of the film is an influential aspect to decide whether it can be successful.
The concept of ‘promotion’ for current movies refers to much more than just release the trailer, poster and casting. Audiences want to know more about the producing procedure, and want to have a more intimate relationship with the movie.
For example, most movie will register an official Twitter account (or Weibo in China) to have some interaction with actors and fans. As a fan, I will be so glad that I can directly ask some questions to the director and actors, and they can see that to reply me. Also, this account will release some clips or tidbits to satisfy the audiences. After the full movie was released, it will post some reviews from fans. All of this kind of online interaction is a way to enhance the relationship between audiences and the movie, and spread the information to the whole social website to attract more potential audiences.
Recently, I find that most movies are doing the road show, which means all the actors will go to the cinemas in different cities to hold the meeting and watch the full film with their fans. When some famous English movies were released in China, such as Hunger Game, The Martian and etc, those stars even flew to hold the meeting with Chinese fans. I am surprised that they really devote a lot effort and money on the promotion part, which also proves the significance of promotion.
As a movie lover, I think this new promotion way works quite well. I have more chance to see the information of those new films, and to know about a new director. When I read some reviews, I am curious about the movie and wants to watch it.
