Internet Celebrities and sell things
With the development of internet, becoming famous is much easier than before.
Ten years ago, people could only pay attention to those ‘real’ stars, who appeared on Tv shows, concerts, and stages. Not everyone had the chance to become famous, or did the things they really wanted. However, Internet becomes the biggest stage now. I like to use instagram or weibo (a Chinese social app which is similar to twitter) to follow others. At the beginning, I was searching for those ‘real’ stars. Also, I could find people who have the same hobby with me on these apps. When I started to be interested in makeup, I could find some useful tutorials, and those bloggers who shared their experiences, and I started to follow them. People will follow some bloggers for some very simple reasons, like good-looking appearance, interesting words, internet writers, or even the love of the same idol. As a result, the word ‘internet celebrity appears, and this phenomena becomes more and more popular over the world.
As the picture I present above, Kylie Jenner is a representative of internet celebrity. She is famous because of her face, background, family, makeup and even life style. When she built up her cosmetic brand, her fans got crazy and spent money buying products. Similarly, Chinese internet celebrities also like to make their own brands and sell things. I’m not going to be totally opposed to the products of internet stars, and it is true that advertisement and strong calling are very important for selling. However, as a fan, we should evaluate the quality of these products objectively. In terms of these influential bloggers, when they decide to sell goods, they should take the responsibility of their products. Because of their calling, there must be some fans to purchase the products, and bloggers should consider it seriously, pay enough effort on products, instead of just earning their fans’ money. In terms of followers, the concept of ‘rational consumption’ is quite important. It is better for followers to first think of their needs and the quality of products before purchasing.
In all, internet creates more opportunities, but when we face to this crush, we, consumers, should still hold the rational mind.
