Since the concept of my audiovisual piece, film genre and format switching, was quite experimental, to mitigate viewer’s confusion by preventing the sudden change of genres, I had left some ‘clues’ to help them distinguish between their differences, as well as to notice audiences something strange was about to happen.
Chasing scene
The chasing scene had begun unexpectedly, with the protagonist used the camera as a mirror, to create a comedy effect by breaking the ‘fourth wall’ and having direct interaction with viewers. Therefore, the ending should follow the flow that ended in a weird and unpredictable way: broke the fourth wall again by the rewind effect, along with the protagonist gazed and smiled at them horribly.
RMIT Connect
The RMIT Connect was acted as a landmark in film, as being the opening of the commercial and one of the most obvious installation of it, which it appearance at the second half of commercial could remind audiences the film had turned back into a promotional video, with the help of the background music, could regain the focus from the girl to the presentation of the New Academic Street.
Glitch effect
To avoid viewers being shocked by the abrupt glitch transition between the commercial and the music video, I had placed a few screen glitches in that part of the commercial, with the amount had obviously increased, portending viewers that the next transition might be a glitch effect in a greater extent, which could let their mind being prepared for the final switch. However, the video had eventually toyed with their expectation again, through a ‘hard cut’ when the commercial was still dipping to black, and the music hadn’t completely faded.
