Immer…sion~
Thanks to the evolution of media (mostly related to Internet?), these days we could be extremely easily to get immersed in different kind of stuff, such as being a binge-watcher at weekends as the emergence of VOD services, music had become one of our necessities in daily life, or even accidentally stepped into the world of Wikipedia then being immersed in its hyperlinks fully filled pages.
Most of my immersing experiences…were all came from the ‘universe’ setting in different movie/TV drama series, including the MCU and the CW DC Universe, as well as, the Digimon anime series and the KO TV drama series (10 dramas in total until 2017) from Taiwan that took a huge part in my childhood.
Let’s take the KO series as an example, a comedy series that has a supernatural setting and teen-oriented. What cause me being immersed in it, would be kept watching a same group of actors to play several distinct roles with a totally different personalities in that series, while most of them were happening in different ‘dimensions’ of the same universe. And of course, accompanied by soundtracks that I am familiar with, which constantly brought my memories back and willing to re-watch the previous once I heard that they were about to come back.
Though this studio, I wish I could successfully figure out the psychological theories behind this kind of immersive ‘universe’ things that kept pulling me in, where I could apply them on my future video pieces, as long as creating a both audio and visual immersive work at the end of the semester with integrating what I had learnt in the past Sound Design elective. As well as certain subordinate goals: making more friends, being a bit more active in class with improving my presentation and collaboration skills as I had a kind of dispute with my groupmates last time.
