My first time having an in-class exercise with all my new meet group mates that both having a difficult pronounced first name, Bharam and Cinzia (early left for the first one), which might be the last collaborative experience in the first semester as well.
Here comes, another audio based exercise, a slightly formal one with some materials requirements, another chance for us getting to know each others more, where our ideas came from, how we put them together into a single work piece, and for me, the culture differences between where we came from.
Speaking of preparation, where gave me an instinct that working out a detailed plan seems would never be happening in our team, a kind of ‘play it by ear’ working style that made me feel a bit anxious although I am not such a well planned person as well. How it works would be:
Everyone must have come out of different kinds of ideas right? We had ignored the process of combining them all together as more coherent one, a more perfect one, and straight moving to the recording. After recording all the materials we needed, such as a bunch of ringtones and a story plot of interviewing, then deal with them separately by using our own way (perhaps the title ‘exercise’ was the reason why we did all these procedures that casually), that eventually each of us might bring out of a sound-piece that looks totally different.
So… My own idea would be, a few amount of iPhone kept ringing as the figure at first (with SFX beautified), which gradually turn into the background while the conversation, the informal interview begins, then the story ends casually with some door closing and footstep sound effects (not an SFX showcase this time), or turns back to the ringing ringtones again.
However, how to place a clip of music into a sound-work that’s already filled with sound effects, and the theme, phone chatting, conversational and interviewing, doesn’t really need one? The only way I could think of…is seeking a slower temple, an instrumental one and use it as the background of the interview.
Finally, through this exercise, had figured how this team works, and what I have to learn from them, that the ability of paying less effort on handling what means less important to us, or some ‘paperworks’ of our final project instead, where that’s the main difference between me and my teammates: I would like to concentrate on anything that I had been assigned, that sometimes tended to paying too much attention on things with lower priority, which end up missed the chance of perfecting the major one.
