Film Light – Reflection 6

On this Tuesday’s class, we had a look at the three point lighting and practiced to build up one which involved key light, fill light and back light. A Dedo light was used to be the back light which the lighting was more focused. A new kind of light was introduced during the class named Kino Flo which is a fluorescent light. This kind of light is really different to the lights that we’ve been using. Fluorescent light is a soft light source which has a stable colour temperature to Daylight. It is balanced so the colour temperature does not change when adjusting the light and it does not get hot. It is a convenient tool to create a instant soft light and it requires less space which means ideal to use in a small space.

From the class, I leant how to use the equipment in a safe way and make everything under control. We may choose to use a power kit between the power point and the lamp to make sure the safety. Be careful of the position that the lamp is chosen to be placed. It is worth noticing that a lamp is not placed under the detector in case something happened out of your control. The lights can become very hot after using and normally we wear gloves to avoid being burnt. Another safety factor to check during the shooting process is that the cable should never be left in a pile which might heat up and burn. Moreover, always remember to put the shot bags as you do not want something to fall over. Last but not least, it is better that you pack up the tripod on yourself rather than having two people to do that. It is easy to hurt your finger speaking from my own experience.
