To be honest, my aim for this semester is to improve my technical skill of using the cameras. I would like to do something that plays around the equipement and enables me to create some short clips at the end of the semester. I am curious about how the camera works to record the way the world runs no matter whether the content is true or not as I believe that people have their own judgements or expectations. So that I chose both Real to reel and Sci fi to be my preferences. And I have to say that I was impressed after the first week’s classes. That was a lot more interesting than what I expected at first. I thought that what we would do is to watch some traditional documentary films and get to know the way they were made. However, what I thought about non fiction production is apparently not true. I searched online and found that the current non-fictional field is already very broad. Its form is diverse, its ways of presentation are diverse, it is no longer just about a single subject but containing cross-domain content by combining multiple forms of media.
I really like staffs such as taking photos, playing with equipment, editing and so on. I took photo journalism last semester and learned something, but I am not satisfied. I want to really get familiar with every process of media making, I want to have my own work, and I hope that my work can bring inspiration to others.
My goals for this course is to:
- Understand the applications of non fiction area to modern society.
- Get familiar with the process of non fiction media making.
- Improve my skills of media production.
- Be more open to communicate with people even strangers.
- Have my own work of non fiction clips at the end of the semester.
