Dose it matter? Real or Fake? As long as it is art. How about art itself? Dose art a lie? Or dose it really matter?

According to Welles (1973), “Art itself is a lie for us to realise the reality”. The art market in the twentieth century flourished and huge trading needs gave birth to endless fakes and counterfeits. Wells us the old photos of scenery, performances, and horse-drawn carriages to describe the private past. The teenager changed from a wandering painter to a Broadway superstar in a lie. “From the top, I have embarked on a downhill road since then”.

Wells took us to appreciate the intuitive civilization, sighing the true body and the fake art and humanity. The quick editing of the legendary scam is very exciting and eye-catching, the lens group is close to perfect, with a simple material to form a beautiful and accurate polyphony. The film shows the beauty and sublimity of the illusion, and the melancholy of the liars.

At the end of the film, Wells also invited his girlfriend Oja Kodar to compile a romantic affair with Picasso. The “lie” directly talks with the artist in the fable, restores the birth of art, and lets the two sit in opposition discussing the same proposition: “Why should there be forfeiture for art?” Well puts himself in the audience’s field of vision and becomes a very strong voice in the film.
