In my last blog, I wrote about going to building 94 on the 2nd of October to create the background music for our project. I spend the whole afternoon there but only create a piece around 30 seconds which really annoyed me. Then the next week, I tried to create something just by playing my piano and using the recorder to record them down which worked really well. I put the different pieces I made into Audition and edited them. I used to use pro tools to edit the sounds and just wanted to try something that I am not so familiar with this time. Lots of fades in and fades out were used throughout the whole session. The most important part in this process of editing was that I cut in a piece which the pace was quicker than the other pieces and I tried to mixed them together naturally. It was hard as they were really different, I added the effect of echoing to the piece which was quicker than the others and did lots of cutting. I split a piece from its middle and cut the quicker piece in and faded them in order to make them being mixed perfectly. According to the reading, “since the larger public is passive, it might be desireble to caltivcate a listening potential”. To illustrate that , the way that we listen is worth noticing. We normally tend to willing to listen to sounds or music compositions which make us feel relaxed, comfortable and attracted. I would like to create the music to be more appealing to my audience.
I believed that the problem of the background music that I create might be found on the cutting of different pieces as they were not connected and transited seamlessly. Although I tried my best, my group mates and I still found that there were some times that we both feel a bit weird when playing the music. I asked my group mates to write down the time code once they feel that it can be improved and edited the piece again and put more effects on it. Hope it would sound better. Jenna and Cindy went to shoot again as we were not satisfied with what we got last time. We will see each other today and make the discussion about the final video and images that we want to include in the exhibition.
