In our second group meeting, we went along Yarra river to record the sounds and tried to take some photos. We tried different locations along the river. At first we wanted to take some amazing landscape photos, but after trying to take about 200 different ones, we thought that the video might work better. We used a tripod and set the camera on the riverside, and the lens was aimed at a river restaurant on the river bank and its reflection in the river. The colourful lights and its reflection in the water were so illusional and dreamy and that was just perfect for what we want for the theme. We filmed the scene from the daytime to the night until the picture turns into a night scene. Our ideal video includes pictures of the city views, but after trying it, it was difficult to achieve our initial goal.
After taking the photos, we prepared for the class presentation. There was a short clip of the video being edited. Also, some photos were being edited too as we thought that might be needed. There is poem that we planed to include in our work. I think emotions are important. According to the reading, emotions are ubiquitous but usually transient changes throughout the organism. They represent responses to events of great importance to individuals and mobilize all resources to respond to their own situations, whether positive or negative. “That the human voice not only permits judging the speaker’s emotion but can also induce affect in the listener has been held as self-evident throughout history”. How we are going to present the poem is worth noticing.
I am responsible for the background music for the video that we made. The music will last for around three minutes. On the 2nd of October, I went to building 94 to do the music in one of the sound studios. I used the logics X to create the sound pieces. The instruments that I used were violas, violins, daylight piano and guitar. During the process, I find that it was really hard to type on the keyboard. There was a midi but I did not know how to connect it with the computer and I did not have the suitable headphone. Besides, there was no one that I could seek the help so I just gave up! I’ve been watching some youtube tutorials of using midi but I think I really need some more practical tutorials on how to use a midi.
