“Unlecture” is quite a strange idea to me. A lecture is not actually a lecture…Yet the first unlecture is interesting. I got a lot more from Adrian than in the conventional lectures where I usually sit with my Macbook opened and enjoy myself in Facebook.
I did my high school in Hong Kong, a place where teachers teach and students learn. Everything is very textbook based. I can’t fast thinking. Adrian has been very inspiring when he talked about “T-shaped” person. Umm… a person who is strong in one aspect but has variations in others. I was confused. Am I able to become one of those? The educating system in Hong Kong is suppressing creativity. I don’t used to think that I need to possess a range of skills; I don’t used to share my thoughts in a public area and even possibly receive comments from others; I don’t used to be creative as to come up with my own idea.
Adrian is convincing in telling how after graduate we will probably never write an essay again, I suddenly understand the idea to blog anything – to give and take ideas from others. True enough, no one in the future gonna ask how good I can write essays but how well I fit myself into this information rich media network . Blogging looks more effective and practical when it comes to our future employment.
Respond to the speculative passage about Networked Media, the boat is a metaphor for the subject. On this boat, Adrian gonna lead us to achieve what we want to achieve, he will give us directions and push us along the way. There is no “shore”; we can still make good use of our skills and keep expanding it even after the semester. We may make mistakes in the process just as the boat may “get blown and wash around; yet we should embrace it. We are the one to control the boat and make its route different. The boat is also like the network. I believe every of us can contribute something in it and seek something out there.
