Media Workshop – 5
In this week’s workshop, we had small ‘film festival’ and spent most of time on the Sony MC50 camera and Exercise.
At the beginning of the class, we had a view of all students’ vide of PB 2. I was so shy when Mr. Brian showed my video to classmates because I do not know if I did good job. However, most of students’ works are funny and interesting. They record their hobbies or daily life in the video and we can know the basic information about themselves from the video.
Next part is the most important part. We have already done the assessment of PB 2, however, the new challenge job is coming soon. Mr.Brian talked about main content about PB 3 briefly and the rest time was to introduced the most necessary equipment in PB 3 that we need to use.
Each group got the Sony MC50 camera and the guide of it. Mr.Brian taught us how to use the camera and some typical function about it. In the rest time of the workshop, each group needed to go outside and do the interview about the first six weeks’ feeling.
Our group did the interview outside, but there were too much passerby and strangers. To get past this problem, we chose the wall as the background. The interviewer and the interviewees stood in the front of the wall, so that it would be easier to focusing on the main people. However, the biggest problem of the video is the sound of cloud was so loudly, so that the audiences cannot hear the speaker’s voice clearly when they are watching the video. I found this problem when I edited the video, so I had no chance to mitigate this problem, but I will solve this issue next time. Moreover, we did not made the reaction shots of the interviewer and interviewees during the interview. It will be better if we can have the shot cut between the interviewer and the interviewees, because it could show their reactions and expressions more clearly. The most successful shot of the video is the transition from the wide shot to the interview and then to the cutaways and the establishing shot again. Moreover, when we did the interview, the interviewer and the interviewee both in the frame. I prefer to this method of the interview, because it could express the eye contact and actions between the interviewer and the interviewee. For the camera technique, I found the composition of the Sony MC50 camera is very complex. However, the microphone of the camera is useful because it made the voice louder. Overall, it is the first time I use the camera which has complex composition like this. I still have many shortcomings about the interview and using the camera, I will try my best to do better in PB 3.
