Reflection about Interview

30 March, 2017

In this week’s initiative, I would like to write some reflection about ‘Interview’ because it is related to the topic of this week’s lecture and workshop.

The initiative post in week 4, I wrote about one of the most famous and popular film, which is ‘Beauty and The Beast’. Dan Stevens and Emma Watson really did great job in the film because of their wonderful acting skills and they receive excellent response from the audiences. Many media programs and companies want to interview them or invite them for advertising. A few days ago, I watched an interview about them online and talked about their wonder movie.

My focus is on their conversation when I watched the interview for the first time because I did not have the lecture at that moment. However, after today’s class, I watched the interview again and the structure and the environment of the interview become the elements I pay attention to.

The audiences of the interview are social media users. The interviewer choose people who are related to the popular topic in the society as the interviewees. In another word, Dan Stevens and Emma Watson are two heated stars in the society because of their famous movie ‘Beauty and The Beast’. It is a good idea because the audiences would be interested in it. For questions, the interviewers prepared lots of interesting sample open-ended questions before and these questions are simple and easy to understand. It is great because it would helpful for the audiences who are not native speakers. The interviewer has clear clue that what she will ask next. Moreover, the place of the interview is in the private room. It is an necessary point because the room could create a quite and bright environment. That is great to prevent some strangers or other unnecessary voice may appear during the interview. The audiences will be concerned about the interviewees themselves. These elements are useful and crucial for editing the completed video. In addition, the interviewer keeps listening and be quite when the interviewees are speaking, she maintain eye contact with the interviewees and show respectful and empathy to each other. The interviewer also has good skills to make the transition between each question.

By comparing this video with the interview I did in the workshop, I think I have many shortcomings need to modify. For example, it would be a better choice if I interviewed inside, such as in the building or the room. Moreover, I need to have more eye contact with the interviewee. Although it was just a exercise, I need to think more about the elements of ‘interview’ and try to do better.
