Final reflection

This is a final reflection throughout this whole semester. It is a great chance to  look back on all the things I have done, it is all about my  precious memory.  Transforming from Advertising to Media, I determined to start over, so I am high-demanding and having high expectation. In the beginning of this semester, I was depressed about my work, because I don’t know how to use Premiere and how to edit video. And my classmates made great video with good technical skills. Luckily, I have a nice tutor Louise, she comforted and encourage me. I am particularly grateful to her for her kindly help. I started to be patient and do it step by step.

This is my first media  project, I was doing a self-portrait. I never think about what kind of person I am. This project gave me a chance to think about myself carefully. I wrote a list on the paper of thing I like and enjoy. I learned how to identify myself, how to  represent myself visually. Although, this project didn’t be graded, I put good effort on it. It doesn’t require technical skills, so I used my iPhone to take photos and videos.  I learned how to take photo and video from different angles and practiced several times. This project heighten my sense of self-awareness, and broaden my imagination.

This was the first time using H2N Zoom recorder, I was excited because I have never used any recorder before. Yolanda and I found a quiet place to do the interview. Since we only have like 10 mins to do, I had no idea what to say, so my answer had lot of ‘ums’ ,’uhs’. And I have no idea how to use Audition that time, so I took a couple hours to learn how to use Audition. Since we record the sound and background noise separately, so the  interview sounds loud and clear. And I also learned how to get rid of the ‘ums’. This was my first step at Audition.

This was first exercise using Sony MC50 video camera which was so convenient to carry around. I like this camera, it could zoom in /out smoothly. We only had 20 mins to do this interview, so we did everything in a rash. We didn’t adjust the white balance, so I need to fix the lighting in Premiere, but it looked weird because I was not good at it . Therefore lighting is very important, if the lighting is bad , I need spend lots of time to fix it in Premiere. Good lighting could save much time. Moreover, there were lots of background noise in the interview, but I couldn’t get rid all that time due to my poor technical skills. The best way is to find a quiet place.

Week 6- reading

The reading suggested that people should have intentional notion, it could help to get broader and deeper access to knowledge and world. I think it is necessary to have intentional notion, so I did an experiment. I sent camera in front of me, and started to record myself reading an article. And when I playback the video, it was very interested to see myself doing lots of unconscious gestures such as scratched my hair when I was confused and nodded when I agree with something. And I never noticed that when I was reading he article.  Lots of people do the same gesture as well, it is unconscious. Having intentional notion could help me discover something interesting and get good inspiration.

week 7 – Class reflection

We watched our PB3 videos in class. I was so excited and nervous to watch my video, because I put so much effort on it. My filming skills is much better than PB2, I know how to film an object from different angle and get the best one, and have better understanding of composition.  As for editing, I did much better than PB2. This video took me nearly 15 hours to edit.  It was such a long time, but it is worthy. I found everyone has different themes and angles, I was very impressed  with some of the video which has great structure and awesome editing skills. I know that I would do that good in the future. I had to give feedback to three people in my group of their videos, so  I wrote the key elements when I watched. It challenged my notion skills , critical thinking skills and analyzing skills. I had to think about the good things they made and what else they could improved.
