To me researching was always about having a notebook to take down all the information about a certain subject or place. During my summer internship back in my home country, I was in charge of scriptwriting and editing for a new production show. Hence, whenever I’m out and about traveling to recce our show’s contents, I would be all focused, or maybe too focused, trying to capture all the factual information in my to-go notebook.
In today’s workshop we were taught on how to bring ourselves into a research space just to have some preparation before the field trip to Lentara Uniting Care.
When you bring yourself into a research space, focus on the feeling, the mood, and try to picture 3 dimensionally. Take down the details of the environment and surroundings. Observe how the people are dressed, their interactions, representations and presence. One of the significant things would be going out in the research space with an open approach and slowly building relationships to better understand others.
Through the introduction of this new approach of researching, I realized that not only the factual information is important but also the details that help form communication and connection to our project.
