Tagging is an essential part of working in the online space, to communicate, to organise and to search out topics and ideas. Social networks, such as Twitter rely heavily on hashtags to create conversations and being involved in something. They can be used to be a discussion board whilst an event is happening, whether it be on television or a news story etc. So for example, whilst the Oscars were going on this year, you can search for hashtags to find tweets that are specifically using the tag #Oscars. This way you can be involved, read and reply to what people are saying whilst simultaneously watching the event itself. It creates community involvement with people all over the world whilst sitting and watching television at home.
