Film 3 looks to be an extremely valuable and exciting course in my journey into filmmaking. There are many things I’m looking forward to doing, learning and achieving throughout the semester. Though I do have what I consider to be a fair amount of personal experience with cinematography at this point, there is so much more to learn. I’m mainly looking forward to getting a practical knowledge through trial and error of camera types, technology and uses. I’ve always known if I want to be the best movie maker I can be, I’ve got to have as much knowledge as possible on all aspects of filmmaking. I know that cinematography is a huge aspect of knowledge I need, to understand and imagine shot types I want, how to achieve them, as well as know the process it takes to set up and get high quality shots.
My hopes for the course are also to get a more extensive knowledge of many other filmmaking elements, the method and process of sound design, editing and producing drama and documentary. Editing is something I’m probably most comfortable with and have the most experience in, compared to other aspects. However my main experience has come from Final Cut Pro, not Adobe Premiere. So I’m excited to get a chance to also expand my knowledge of editing software as well to give a better chance in future to be a part of other productions with double to amount of editing software experience.
I like the concept of researching to learn, but research in a practical sense. By going out and using equipment and filming something we either have planned briefly, or without a plan at all and just practising our skills and seeing what we find. There is much I look forward to doing throughout the course, things I expect, hope and even not yet anticipate, while continuing to build my skills and knowledge as a filmmaker.
