What is Craft?

From the real-world media class, the craft was defined as a distinct product that needs to be visible to the public. As it begins, more people will eventually start to admire how different it is from the norm. From the “idea of the head”, the artist could find a vision to bring something to life and how the artist will find knowledge and skills in order to see what it needs for the “heart” to finally follow the artist’s personal passion and emotional investment to the craft. All with the help of the “mind”, which is how the artist will engage and execute the craft, as stated by Mr Plint (cited in Frayling 2012) from the Leeds. Walter (cited in Frayling 2012) said that all things must “return” to the craft so that the idea could evolve through time, making new dates ideas which are, for example, nail arts, and from that, the craft could finally be an industry and has its experiment for the artist own taste for the craft. Moreover, it is essential for the artist to follow their spirit and imagination for their unique craft, as stated by Behne (cited in Frayling 2012)

From the experiment, it is essential for the craft to have their own design, which they get from the “material”, which is a “replica”, and with the help of their imagination of the individual’s hand, only then could they achieve what craft is. (Stefanía Castelblanco 2021) (Behne cited in Frayling 2012) They also needed their own skill, which is how they will produce a result that the craftspeople would want and what the client would want in terms of the craft industry (Taylor 2012). Craftspeople also work with a manual skill to guide individuals on how to accomplish it, but only with serious learning for the intellectual come in to help with creating to reach a desired output.

Much important stuff is unnoticed by many people, such as how the craftspeople make crafts. The most important part of crafting is the process of it due to its sentimental value being in the process (Page & Thorsteinsson 2018). Processes also have its failure because of the need for more practice and implementation of the craft. Due to that, to achieve the best outcome and to satisfy clients, craftspeople need to improve, improvise and practice their skills daily (Brown 2021). (Page & Thorsteinsson 2018) state that crafting is something that people cannot buy or something to be born with; it is indeed a skill that needs to be sharpened, which will need a lot of time and patience for the craftspeople to get a desired skill level. A lot of the time, craftspeople need tools to make the desired product, which leads to the interaction between human control of the tools and the material that is needed to get a good outcome. Craftspeople will need a set of toolkits to do a specific part of the process (Posch & Fitzpatrick 2021).
