This year is my third year in Melbourne, as an international student, my emotion for Melbourne is changing during the three years all the time. For me at the first Melbourne is just a place my parents wanted me to study in, however this thought was changed in my second year here, because I gradually loved to be here, and I find my own interests here. So I’m thinking that for other international students, will they have the same or different emotion as me? For my screen project 2 I really wanna do a documentary to record the lives of international students in Melbourne.
I got an inspiration form A Bite of China, which is television series on the history of food, eating, and cooking in China. This documentary uses the food making process to explore more Chinese traditions, character relationships and emotions, which the food is not a simple ‘food’, but the sustenance of people’s life and emotions. Thus I think I need to come up with a way of showing the international student’s emotion for Melbourne by interviewing them and the clips of their lives.
Moreover, in A Bite of China, the background music really matches the footages, and it still retains the original sound of the video to a large extent, thus I think it’s quite a good way to present the both footages and emotions, which the music will help to strengthen the expression. Then back to my project I think I will take it and uses in my way, which put some light music during the voiceover and keep the sound of their daily lives activities and conversation.
