Story & Script

After discussing our team decided to do the film based on Francesca’s story and script, which is a little boy asks a clown whether he can join in the circus, however we wanted to make it in a thriller way(which fuse the idea of Tristan’s story) to start and a warm happy ending.

Also Melody helped us to make the script more formal and I think this is the final script the we can go head it.

Location

1. circus

The story happens in a circus so we definitely need the shots in there, however after discussing we find that it is probably impossible to shoot inside the circus, thus we just wanna the establish shots of the circus. And we find a circus in Geelong, so some teammates will go and check the circus view before shooting.

2. dressing room

As we can not shoot inside of the circus, so we change the setting that story happens in the backstage of the circus. Thus there is a good idea to shoot in a dressing room (wherever is ok), and then pretend it is in the circus. Additionally our teammate Tanya recommends a good place of RMIT’s dressing room, I think if we can have the permission we will no doubt that to shoot in there.

Characters & Clothing

1. little boy

We wanted to have an ordinary little boy who’s age is around 8~10 years old to be the main character. The clothing of him should be simple and childish, and it is better to wear light colour.

2. clown

This is a clown played by an adult man, wears the normal clown costume and a heavy clown make up.

3. woman

A middle aged woman wears a circus costume and fake beard.

Props & Materials

Those circus posters inspired us the choice of colour tone and place setting, also we can print those posters out to stick on the wall to make a more real circus environment.

Shots

1. establish shot

2. close up footsteps

as we can’t shoot inside of the circus, we can only shoot the footsteps to cheat that characters are going inside.

3. close up of props and posters

this shot also helps to show the setting of the enviroment.

4. mid shot & over the shoulder

those shots will be used to shoot their conversation, and it can be shoot in different characters’ position and angles.
