Study 8

I got the idea from my first project. My first project was a colour changing of two windows which is to represent people have different ways to look at things and people can be different, just be themselves. So my final project I want to show people that their voice can be powerful and strong which is also main to tell people talk in their ways and be themselves. Everyone’s voice is powerful, people should tell what they want and I got the code from Ann’s work which helped me a lot.

Study 7

I got the idea of this project from my study major project. My major project was about time and action which is to tell people who look at this work take actions quickly otherwise the time is passing faster than you think. So, this study 6, I was thinking about make four windows. The first window will record 3 seconds and at that time the audience need to make a sound and the video will be recorded. After that, the audience make the next sound for the next window and so on. After four videos recorded, four videos will play together to make your own music sound effect. But I still have some code not done yet, so sometimes it does not work. Camille helped me a lot on this. But I think I just need get more time to make it better. 

Study 6

This project I tried hard to made a game which got the idea from Ammy’s major project. Her major project was a game to control a small character by clicking the “up”, “down”, “right” and “left” keys which is aim to ignore the small monsters to catch up. So that, I created this project which is  a game either. But it is a two people game which is let two players control their cars for a racing. While players play the game, they have a button which is to “drop” an banana to stop the other car 2 seconds so that they can catch up and get the opportunity to win. I used Ammy’s code as the bas of my work. After I showed to Paul my work, he suggested me to add a background music, so I take that suggestion and added a background music. I was satisfy with my study 6 project. 

Reflection 2.0

While I was doing my study 4,5 and major project, I have learnt how to think about inspiration from life or art works. Since I think the idea of a Art work is the mots important part. Before I start this Assignment I was having a really hard time to come up with an idea of my work. However, after I went to the ACMI I known that there are so many great ways to show interactive arts, because of that I have much more feeling of Interactive Arts than before. As my group work, study 4 and 5. My group members and I come up with that idea just because we think sometimes we talk too loud in the class and that may affect other students’ study so that we wanted to create a system which to remind people to be polite and gentle in the public. That is what I  have learnt from my life. When I was doing my Assignment 1, I was thinking about to make my work more fancy and big. But right now, I am thinking about the purpose of this work is more important than what it looks. So, while I was visiting the ACMI, I got an idea from the Time Slides which is a machine which 36 cameras made to catch an action when people move and make it stable. After seen that, I was thinking about the relation with actions and the time. This is what my major project idea comes from. My major project is aim to remain people take actions right now for work or study not for wasting time. Because in our daily life, we used to swipe our phones or doing nothing with our coming work, that is why I put a slow-motion window to shoot people which is also represents our life status. Further more, I put the time counter to represent the time is passing fast. I was quite satisfy with my two projects this time. I think the idea of those two work are better than what I did last time.

What I learnt so far about Max is keep becoming more and more. From this Assignment, I learnt how to use facial recognition technology, voice tools and live effects of the video which helps a art work working with out the instruction of the mouse or the keyboard. This helped me stand out of the thinking of system need to control by people. It could be “free”. Since I always think the Art work can’t work by itself. 

Right now, from all my 6 Max studies, I learnt how to find a way to think about interactive arts as well as get to know more about how to use Max. Firstly, the main idea or the purpose of one Art work is very important before create a new work. But I often feels hard to get the idea. Right now, I start to get those inspirations from other Art works or life. Furthermore, about how to use Max. I often got help from Camille since I still not so familiar with Max. However I always got ideas, I just don’t know hoe can I make it work. So far, I am satisfy with all of my works, even they are not that good. But I think I have put my effort on it. After class, I would do some practise some times. Technically, we have enter into a new section which use the facial recognition technology, voice tools and other toolset help our work become more interactive. During the group work each of them would try the best to show what they think and how much they have learnt and put them into the work. We shared opinions and creative thoughts. That was a great time to talk with group members. That would make me do more and think more. 

In the future studies, I think there is much more room I can do. I also would love to do more group works. Creative minds is the most important thing, so I hope I should get more new inspirations more music or video could be used in my future works as well as to make my work more meaningful, not just for fun. I wish I could do it by myself in my future study, rather than always rely on my teacher. 

Major Project Statement

As my major project, I got an idea from the Time Slides at ACMI. Based on the Time Slides, it was mainly about action and time. I thought I may do a study which remind people to catch up the time. Cause we always get tardiness with our work. So I did my major study for this purpose. I put a window which shows slow motion while people moving and a time counting system beside which runs faster than normal time counting. The window one, I was trying to show that we always do our work slowly and waste our time from doing nothing. But the time is passing faster than we think. So we have to catch up the time and don’t waste it from doing nothing. We should think about use our time properly and  efficiently. When I created this study, my teacher Camille helped me with the time counting system and I adjust the data of the time system while I looked at  the slow motion of the window. That’s all the thoughts of my work. 

Study 5 statement

About study 5, we did a lot improvement basis of study 4. Based on other classmates and Camille’s suggestions, we changed our emoji into awkward emoji. Cause when someone’s voice become louder people always get more awkward, not angry. Meanwhile, we added comments to explain how our study works. To make the system catch the voice faster and easier, we changed the date of the system to make it more sensitive. We also added two equal signs into the presentation mode to be more clear about how we wanted to represent. Overall, we wanted to show people throughing this study is we should be polite and gentle  in the public otherwise it would make people around you feel uncomfortable or awkward. We were keep switching the screen on and off to adjust the data of the camera system and also the volume system. We kept an eye of the changing of the volume while changing the data. Finally, we got some help from Camille and finished our study 5. I was satisfy with our group work. 

Study 4 Statement

When my group members and I thinking about the study 4. We were thinking about ourselves first, cause sometimes we talk too loud in the class and that make other classmates may feel uncomfortable. So that we wanted to created a program that reminds people when they talk too loud at public. Then they may interact with each other. This study works, while people speak loudly that touches the “red line”. Meanwhile, the happy emoji will become into an angry emoji to remind audience that the voice is too loud. At the start of our work, we were trying to make the picture change when the voice changes but it was not so delicacy. But it was kind of boring so we asked Camille come and helped us. After that, we made the screen into 9 pieces that’s makes more fun with our work. The most difficult thing of our work was the sound sensing part. But Camille gave a lot help for us. So that was all about our study 4. 

Refelction 1.0

 

After all these three studies, I have learnt a totally new thing for me which called Max. I also get a deeper understanding about Interactive Art as well as get more creative mind from these work. 

Firstly, I did the research on a Interactive Art named 《Cloud》. It is a shape of cloud which made from thousands wasted light bulbs. I didn’t find much information about what the artists’s mean purpose of this work. But personally I think this work is about telling people the sense of garbage recycling as well as the environmental protection. Since the work itself was mainly made from recycling light bulbs. The work itself was really pretty and when audience pulling its chains, viewers cause lightning to flicker on the surface of the sculpture, unwittingly staging an electrical storm for the audience beyond the periphery of the rainfall. That was a visual feast and intense sensory experience for visitors. The best thing I have learnt from this was that Arts can be more active, touchable and meaningful. While I was doing me study 2 with my group members, we always come up with new ideas like add some music, mix the window this video, change the colour of the window or even shape of the screen. Works became so much fun and I though our study 2 was so excellent. We put a lot effort on it. Our main idea is to tell audience that no matter how others think or look at you, at last you have to be yourself. Cause in our work, we created a lot to windows to shoot audience but in different colours, shapes, or in pixels. Some of them also get other things to iterate the audience. We wanted to show how external factor can makes people different. However, after the audience press a key, all those windows would disappear except one window that is truly mirroring people. That means people need to often keep themselves in minds. For my study 3 work, I was sick at the week that Camille help us. So, I just did it a home by myself. Was thinking about to change one video’s background music and then change to another video. But it doesn’t work all the time so that I just give up on this and did the easier way. Just want people who look at this work can have fun with those chickens. That is what this creative work brings me. It opens my mind to think deeper about how to connect audience and art better an closer.

Secondly, I think the most successful part of my works for far is I tried to think more, not only keeping art away from my life or “yellow lines”. Because  I also have learnt how to corporate with my group members about creative work. All those creative minds has tell others so that to also help others developing their thoughts. This was quite helpful, when one person have no idea, and after someone else said a point to help this person think more. At last, I think in the future I still would like to learn about Max more. It is kind of interesting for me actually, but still hard to learn. For future job or working, I would like to do some job related with editing or design. My main interest is also about creative works so I think learn about Max is quite useful for my future job or study. But I think I still have to practise more about creative mind such as do more brain storm from one subject. I wish I can get to know more software about media or editing.

Study 3 Statement

For Study 3, I just used the video playlist to play a video and If audience click the left cross it can play a short music as well as the right cross can play another music. It is just a simple background music change for one video. The only thing I wanna people see through this work is just for fun. Cause the video I put was some chickens walk out from the chicken coop, but I used two different music into this video. I think it makes the video more fun. I just want people who look at this work can have a good mood at least. Everyone could have bad day. Actually I used to think about clicking one key to turn the music on and click again to change another music. However, I was sick that I couldn’t get help from Camille who is my teacher. So I think I just give up and chose a easier way to present my study 3. 

Study 2 Statement

When my group members and I created the study 2 work, we were mainly thinking about letting audience to truly look at themselves. Cause in today’s society, people always be judged by others wether people are overweight, their skin colour was too dark or their eye are not big enough. However, we wanna to tell people who look at our work to know that people looks the best when they are themselves. So, that is why we created over 5 windows at under different filters or shapes. Each of those windows were presented how others think or judge about us, and also they are different state of people. After that, when audience click “3”, all those windows gone except the most normal one which is just minoring audience themselves. During this process, the most challenge thing for us was the “lines”. They were too messy to find out which one is for which window and my group members and I pulled lines to wrong window for “hundred” times. One more thing I thought challenging is the MAX program itself. We always got ideas but we just couldn’t find how to make it work.
