With the second week of our studio Capturing Creativity wrapped up, I’m eager to see what the rest of the semester holds. I was incredibly excited to learn that we would be collaborating with emerging artists on a short documentary. Whilst I’m slightly apprehensive about dealing with subjects I don’t know personally, I see this as an opportunity to finesse my people skills in a professional setting. Getting the most out of my subjects in front of the camera is certainly something I’d like to improve upon this semester. I believe that a major part of directing, is the ability to enhance a subject’s ‘performance’ to achieve the most interesting result. In addition to this, I hope to gain some editing techniques and tricks that will improve the aesthetic of my finished work. Whilst I have a basic understanding of Premiere pro, I want to know more about ideal times to cut shots, use titles and when to introduce music etc. These factors are highly important in documentary as they should be used to enhance the issue/subject, not detract from it.
Ultimately, I would like to achieve a polished piece of media that I am proud of. Ideally this studio will provide me with a documentary that could form part of a port folio.
