In the video below i have used certain effects that are frequently used in surfing videos I have watched.
Slow-motion: A speed of 70% doesn’t achieve the effect I want. The footage is still too quick and you can only just start to make out detail of individual bubbles etc. I could however use this for shots in the water that are a bit slower/calmer to start with.
40% is a much more desirable speed and achieves the effect I had hoped for. You can make out the details in the more violent water and the footage appears to be much smoother. However at this speed the sound is an issue. Its very distorted and distracting so I’ll have to come up with something to fix this or not include sound when using slow motion at this speed.
Flash transition: I learnt how to do this flash transition from a Youtube tutorial. Im not entirely a fan of it and feel it wouldn’t suit the overall tone I’m aiming for in my exercises. However I will keep it in mind and see if there is a place it could fit subtlety.
Aged footage: Again I learnt how to do this through a youtube tutorial. I did follow the instructions exactly but learnt how to customise my own aged footage at the same time. I like the washed out effect which was created by using colour adjustments and toning down the opacity but I don’t like the skipping of frames as it looks tacky. I will consider using the washed out look for my footage but otherwise the effect will not be missed in my exercises.
