My inspiration comes from the small coastal community of Sandy Point in South Gippsland (near Wilson’s prom) and surfing. Sandy point has a beautiful beach which is quietly known for its clean sets of waves. The other attraction of Sandy Point is its landscape consisting of sand dunes and flora etc. I’ve always had an interest in surfing but have only recently developed an appreciation for it as I have just started to learn to surf.

Surf culture is particularly interesting to me as there’s very much the ideal of relaxing and going with the flow embedded within it.

For my project I’d like to create 10 short exercises revolving around Sandy point and surfing/surf culture.
I’m going to be focussing on audio and matching different pieces of audio with separate footage.

Further more, in post I will attempt to recreate certain sounds such as the transition from above the water to below the water by mixing various sounds together. I will also record some acoustic guitar to accompany the footage.

Regarding aesthetics I’ll be looking at close ups of natural textures. I’ll capture footage in the water using a go pro, particularly of waves breaking.

In terms of creating a hybrid of documentary and drama, I’ll look at combining landscape shots with perhaps the audio of interviews with different surfers.

Additionally I’ll attempt to recreate some of my experiences/struggles with surfing. With my 10 short media products I aim to explore the relationship between the surfer and their coastal environment.

With this project I want to improve on editing and my confidence with technology.
