Throughout this studio, I hope to gain a much broader understanding of process of immersion, in which in today’s society we have now developed a deep engagement with New Media and Information Communication Technologies and how they influence our day to day activities. The notion of understanding immersion through meditative practice has been of interest to me over the past few years. With organisations such as Headspace developing applications, which aid the practice of mediation and ultimately improve the mental health of the listeners. To larger dedicated applications such as Insight Timer, where communities of people are free to create and add content to the application. I believe these forms of technologies have only started to scratch the surface in regards to providing users with a truly immersive meditation in which they can gain the desired wellbeing and spiritual practice.
Additionally the Youtube trends of ASMR (Autonomous sensory meridian response) and Binaural Beats videos whereas the listeners are actively engaging with sound on a psycho-semantic level in order to aid with personal/inter-personal development.
From this I wish to develop and build upon skills of creating soundscapes in which are immersive and unique to each listener. Especially through the research/use Tetrahedral Microphones and Ambisonics within the 3D/VR sphere (key focus on research, as I realise some of these topics fundamentally mathematically driven). Additionally I hope to find other individuals who want to explore the idea of 3D film and M/S Recordings within immersive environments. Ideally for my major projects projects I would like to explore the central themes of the use of live music and meditation.
Something which drew me in recently was a campaign funded by Lincoln Motor Company in the US, it was 360/Binaural Music experience created by Beck and Chris Milk called “Hello There”
