Week 8 Update

This week, each group present their pitch to the class which included their synopsis as well as their inspiration and which areas of production they want to focus on. Here’s a quick summary of each of the different projects

Michael, Cody, Lydia and Adrian – Disposal Project/Lost

This group’s project is spilt into two parts

Disposal Project

  • Hitchcock alive today
  • Rope meets Hangover
  • Hungover friends wake up to find a corpse, have to find a way to dispose of it
  • Story used as a vessel for stylistic flair
  • Four chapters, changing roles for each chapter, all taking a turn over each role
  • Not represented chronologically, delivered out of order

Lost

  • But applying similar techniques, could be working together?
  • Production design: white dresses, bush
  • Technical explorations: layers, smoke machine, angles,
  • Thematic explorations: obstacles, environment as a character

Alana, Sam C, Darleen and Jeyda – Sentiment Creeping In

  • Inspiration from Poem
  • Landscape, colour palettes, experimenting with deep and shallow focus
  • Only natural light, only one character on screen at any time
  • 3 locations
  • Exploring different shots
  • Script based from Poem
  • Possibly adding text on screen to set a deep tone
  • Colour grading
  • Filming in Macedon, Williamstown beach and a house

Cindy, Eie Kie and Zhen – 電梯 (The Lift)

  • Chinese dialogue, might not have subtitles
  • Sci-fi/Horror/Fantasy
  • Couple, lift breaks down
  • Takes them to the wrong level, little creepy girl
  • Annabelle, The Ring
  • Lift takes them different places
  • Filming two different lifts, one light, one dark

Aria, Margot, Maddy and Niki

  • Sci-fi
  • Isolation theme
  • Selective colour, (blue and orange)
  • Reflections from mirrors, glass series
  • Filming in the CBD, Southbank, Docklands
  • Inspiration: Cleo from 5-7, Her, Moonlight

Kerry, Ryan and Kate

  • Six locations
  • One each week, looking at exploring the space
  • Using improvisation
  • Establishing a scene
  • Fluid camera movement
  • Inspiration: Carrie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Four Weddings and Funeral, Song to Song

Louise, Rosie, Bell and Sam

  • Bowls club
  • Two old men, dancing together
  • Shot at night
  • 70’s, Auscore feel
  • Focusing on cinematography and production design
