Workshop Two: Hats and Haikus

In Thursday’s workshop, we used the coloured hat system as a way of giving constructive feedback to our classmates about their lo-fi media self-portraits. The system uses four different ‘hats’ to focus on different kinds of feedback.

Red hat – signifies feelings, hunches and intuition
Black hat – judgement, why something might not work
Yellow hat – symbolises brightness and optimism
Green hat – focuses on creativity, alternative ideas and possibilities

The system enabled us to give more useful feedback, as focusing on certain areas forced us to do more analysis than simply saying that we did/didn’t like the work. Looking at the work of other students also allowed me to make comparisons to my own work and consider how I could approach the next brief in a better way.

We ran out of time in class to complete the Haiku exercise in class, so I completed in this morning instead. I’ve worked with other versions of Adobe Premiere Pro before, but this exercise was really helpful in terms of familiarising myself with the Creative Cloud software. It took me a little while to figure out how to add titles, but now I think I should be able to edit my next project without too much difficulty.
