Editing in class.

My original idea is to have the full body across the screens, horizontally. 

I also try with scene that the subject were shot vertically.

Multiple visuals, however the subject is too tiny. The best way is to stick with my original idea- having the body across. 

Although the resolution might be pixelated, I think its also a good way to act as an effect, since I will be putting a layer of mask on top of the visuals to soften the colours (the soft layer is intended to represent the idea of “conceal”, the resolution can be a replacement of that.

The filming itself took less than an hour to do.

My original concept is to push the boundary  by filming full body nude in a public area, however me and the model don’t want to risk on getting trouble, moreover, there was a restaurant right opposite where we were filming, a lot of people can sort of see what we are doing. So I’ve decided to just do the shoot with the model topless.

The process of this project is very important, the whole concept of this film “Concealer” is to show the fear we have on exposing our body parts to the public even though all human have a similar body. As a female, being topless in public spaces is considered as inappropriate, however this doesn’t apply to male. The attention that we’ve received while filming reinforces how human response when seeing a female topless.

We stopped filming because there was a female security on her walkie talkie walking towards us from the bottom of the building. I wonder what happen if a topless man walk past, will he get the same reactions from the public?

After the Signal meetings, I already have an image of what Im trying to do. I found a friend who I will be shooting with, showed her around at Signal so she knows where her body will be exhibited later. Had a quick chat with her before uni the other day sort of run through on what Im going to focus on. I will be proceeding the shoot on Monday and bring my first draft on Wed.

Here is a visual plan on some shots that I will be doing. As I will be filming outdoor, it might be quite difficult as it involves nudity. I will need a visual plan so I can film everything as quickly as possible.

The previous Signal meeting was mainly focus on the technical part as most of us will be proceeding with the filming and have the material ready by Wednesday. Jordan gave us a quick run through on the editing.

Each of us also get time to do a quick group chat in our specific group that we were assigned to. SO for mine it will be the PR team. My team talked about the roles and managing the social media side. I created a draft poster and also a fb cover photo so that Elaine can create the Facebook event and start inviting people to the opening. Marissa is responsible for the press kit.

So I was walking past Flinders the other night, I’ve decided to pop in and have a peep at the projection as I missed it last time. The sound was pretty much the same as last time, but with the projection I think it makes more sense as a whole even though the projection and the sound are pretty separate. As I look at the projection, more ideas were generated in terms of it technical side. As I will be displaying visuals of a body, I think it is important the body parts are being shown clearly, such as the cropping and the frame of the windows wont cover certain parts as I will be focusing on the nudity side of human body.

Today we get to experience what its like to have the projections on inside the Signal building. its quite interesting. After viewing the projections from inside more ideas flow to my head. I was thinking maybe just doing micro of human body, i can also have the entire human body screening across the building. The intimacy of an actual whole human body projection on the screens can give away a very different atmosphere to the public. However I need to consider the censorship problem as this will be showcase in a public area.

I want to take this as an opportunity not just to celebrate the beauty of body but also pushing the boundaries on how we look at our flesh. Its such a sensitive things to show but its not something unusual to us because we all own these body parts.

So I was at Signal that other night at 10 and apparently the projections stops at 10 sharp… However the sound was still going for a little while. I notice the sound was quite apart from the building, like it doesn’t really link together much, I was sitting there observing the public and they seem to not really care about much. Most of them just walked away really quickly while glancing at me and my friend. I guess with the projection, the public might at least stay there a bit longer, it is a spot where people just walk pass, its not a place where people will stay for long.

 

Brainstorming ideas what we want to do for the projection. There were a lot of good ideas around and I am especially motivated with the idea that plays with human body.

Second meeting in Signal. The Signal project has officially started, this time the whole class showed up. We did a brief discussion and brainstorm on what topic we want to focus for this project. We have ideas that work with movements, places, industry, interior/ exterior, earth elements and of course human body. Personally I am interested in body because this signal project will be projecting out to the public, I love the idea of playing with audience’s inner emotions, things that changes audience’s feelings will be quite interesting. Visuals that can capture and create an erotic atmosphere will be quite special especially in a public space.
