– WEEK 4//STUDIO –

Today we went through a test run on using Garageband, we select one part of the sound that we recorded in project 1 and play around with it using repetition, delay, sound effects etc. We then did a little experimental activity, by putting all the laptop on the ground in the middle of the classroom. We even went into the lift as a class and walked back down to the classroom on the stairs. It funny how when these sounds are being played individually, we get this confusion on whether the music is part of our surrounding or actually from the sound that was playing. But when all these individual sounds come together, it becomes “noise”, it is obvious, we notice that sounds are coming through, it creates distraction. When we got off the lift, a student immediately closes their classroom’s door because the “noise” we were playing brings irritation. This activity kinda brought up a question on how we identify as something as “noise”. If you enjoy it, the sound will become music, if you don’t, it become noise. It is a very sensitive word because it is being determined form how you interpret that certain sound.
