Week 5 Reflection / Problems

So a little bit of reflecting and problem solving/questioning this week.

In class we’ve been using footage provided to us to construct a mini K-film. I’m having no trouble putting the film together on Korsakow, however when I open it in my browser the film remains black, as if it’s unable to load.
I’ve spoken to a number of other students throughout the week, trying to work out if they’ve had the same problem/what it is i’m actually doing wrong, and have noticed that a few people tend to be having the same problem… (makes me feel better to know I’m not the only one! ha-ha)
Anyway, so this week in class, I was able to talk to Seth about it, and he suggested trying to open it in another browser. (I know what you’re thinking – I’m thinking it to – why didn’t I try that first? Because I was too busy freaking out abut it not working – that’s why).
So cutting to the chase, I opened the film in firefox, and WALLA! we’re working. I wasn’t able to get a solid answer as to why the film worked in Firefix and not Safari, however it was explained to me that it is the viewers issue to find out which browser a film works best in.
I’m not completely sold on this idea – I would like to be sure that as a maker my artefacts are able to be played in as many mediums as possible and reach as many audiences as possible.

Onto my reflecting however… this week our sketch tasks were all about an object from an animals point of view (multiple shots), another family member (without using their face) and an element from a plants point of view.
At first I was stumped on this weeks task – I only live with one family member, the only animals we have are fish (really interesting) and an element from a plants point of view? Do I just interview a plant or… ? 😉
However, after thinking about it for a while (and walking around the house for a fair few hours) I was able to snag a few videos which I’m pretty happy about. I actually think that the sketch showing an object from an animals point of view might actually be my favourite video of all the sketch tasks.
What do I like about it?
I like the establishing shot, and how the shots gradually get closer into the POV of the fish. I like the fact that I was able to create a way that somewhat resembles looking up under the water. And as always, I enjoyed editing this footage – being able to enhance colours and cuts.
