Class 9: Making Media Video

How did you author the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?

For the Instagram video, I recorded the same Southbank Pedestrian Bridge from another angle, this time in full motion. I’ve never posted a video on Instagram, and was surprised at how many editing features it provides. I personally found the video much easier to record, as I didn’t have to wait to get the ‘perfect shot’.

I wanted my video to capture the true affordances of the bridge and the people that use it. I recorded the video on my iPhone 7 before uploading it to the Instagram app via the Camera Roll upload button.

I wanted my video to act as a real life time-lapse; in the sense that the clip isn’t sped up and remains in the same spot of capture. To do this, I rested my iPhone on a ledge and pressed record for about 9 seconds.

On Instagram, I edited the video into a square, and kept the sound on. I did so because I loved the tranquility, even though the video was recorded in the city. I trimmed the first second of the video out because I was shaking. Keeping in theme with the previous picture, I also applied the same ‘Aden’ filter to the video.

How did you publish the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?

After editing the video, I uploaded it to Instagram with the caption ‘The bridge that keeps us together’, as a joke myself,  because I cross this bridge to go to work, and work is quite literally is my hell.

The video is a one-shot singular clip. Therefore, it did not require a ‘cover’ photo to be chosen as the feature frame before publishing it. I’ve also noticed that the quality deteriorated after I pressed publish, and in comparison to my previous photo.  Please see below.

How did you distribute the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?

Once the video was edited and published on my account, I was able to distribute it through hashtags and geotags. I used #Melbourne and #summer in an attempt to garner more likes. Moreover, the Southbank Pedestrian Bridge Love Locks geotag was tagged to reach another audience.

As mentioned in my last post, Twitter again butchered my Instagram post! As a result, I published it myself on the Twitter app. This proved time consuming as I forgot my password (first world problems). However, Facebook was well behaved and I cross distributed my video with ease.
