Today Amy, Georgina, Elle, Nicole and I went to RRR to record our demo for our Room With a View Show. We are scheduled to go live to air on the 15th May, so a practise run is extremely necessary.
For the demo, I was hosting, Elle was co host, Georgina did panelling and Nicole and Amy were our interviewees. In terms of the panelling, Georgiana did a great job, other than a few glithces here and there, the hour ran smoothly. There may have been a few moments too long pauses and we may have played the wrong song, but that is what practise is for. Nicole and Amy were great interviewees, they were receptive to my questions and I felt like there was a great flow back and forth between us. I’m glad that I got to practise hosting and asking questions because I got a feel for what and what not to do. For example, i realised I kept adjusting the microphone, which you could hear when you have headphones on. I also realised that at times I would talk too fast or unclearly – the way I would with over the dinner table; which is fine for every day conversation but not radio. Furthermore, I noticed listening back that I would say “Mmm” or “Yeah” whilst Nicole or Amy were talking, to politely agree with them and show I was listening. I realised that listening to this can become quite annoying and it is unnecessary over radio. Its important to have clear and concise audio quality and content for the audience, and the small ticks I realised I had after recording, will help me for the live show.
Recording the demo made me aware that I have a lot to improve on in terms of being a host, but it also made me realise how much fun it can be and how interested I am in it.
