On Monday, with half an hour of the lectorial to go, we were split up into groups of five and given the task of ‘noticing’ all mediated interactions in a public place in the city (my groups choice of place was the State Library). As the front of the state library is just a plot of land there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of mediated interactions/media based influence. To list, there was:
– An empty marlborough pack on the ground
– A recycling sign on a bin encouraging a ‘greener tomorrow’
– Someone holding a selfie stick (and to my dismay using it, not on their way to throw it out)
– A banner promoting cultural diversity
– An ad promoting the new “Batman Vs Superman” film (VERY excited)
– And many statues, which i realise aren’t a media form, but they are expressing something in a way. My personal all time favourite statue is the one pictured below because it makes no logical sense.
Seeing how much media influence surrounds us every day was very interesting to sit back and properly acknowledge, as we have just accepted it so normally into our everyday lives.
