A4 pitch

For my pitch for film project 2, I want to try to incorporate my research topics into the film as best I can. The issues that i’m facing i that queer theory is way too in depth to just insert into an already thought out film. Through researching queer theory I have come to learn more about the camp genre and subverting genre tropes so perhaps I can ditch my queer theory stream and focus more on genre. My colour theory research is pretty easy to put into any film so this will continue to be my main research topic. For my pitch, I have put together a bunch of clips from queer/camp films (obviously John Waters and Gregg Araki will be my main examples) and also using clips that represent different aspects of colour theory (American Beauty and Run Lola Run).  I’ll want to produce the last film project to utilise my strengths in that area, and mainly because I really struggle to come up with film ideas that surround either of this research as it’s mostly aesthetic rather than narrative driven. There are a few people in the class that I would like to work with so I’ll be listening carefully to their pitches to see if we can collaborate on anything. Basically any idea will work for me as long as it isn’t heaving narrative/dialogue driven and works with concepts rather than exposition. If my options are limited (as it looks like this class is focusing on narrative films) I’m easily able to slide the queer/camp genre into something and still dress the set with colours relating to the storyline, but I would rather an abstract structure to be able to work freely and conceptually through the film. My main goal is to produce something that looks professional and work with people in the class who are creative and motivated so that the work is spread evenly and we all have the same motivations and goals. For me this next project isn’t just about getting a good grade, I want something that we can submit to festivals depending on how well it turns out. Like I said, I have a few people I want to work with and i feel like their motivation level is the same as mine so I should be able to slide into their project depending on what direction they want to take.
