Filming and Outcomes

I have started filming for three days and yet every time I review the shots I feel unsatisfied. The first day of filming was shot at night where I shot the ending scene. I shot a few alternatives just in case I wanted a different kind of ending. The second day of filming started at noon where the sun was shining brightly on us. It was pretty hard to control the brightness because it looked over exposed on camera. When I moved to another location I have to keep adjusting the setting and making sure that it looks similar with the previous scenes. On the third day of filming I started filming from 5pm until 8pm. The sun was still bright between the 5pm and 6pm. After 6pm it was starting to get dark however filming on a Thursday after working hours is not ideal since most of the streets were fill with people. I did a major mistake of not checking the audio from the wireless mic. The most important scene that I shot at the café was to capture the conversation however it was not recorded. Even though we can make it work during post production by recording the voice but I still feel that I shoot reshoot that scene because I feel that is one of the most important scene in my story.

I have been thinking that even though my scenes has the sun shine brightly, I can change the colour tone during post production by giving a cooler look. It may or may not work. At the back of my mind I am thinking of restructuring my story. I feel that I am losing the focus of my story where I amplify the loneliness of this character through the places she walks and attempts to make conversations. Each scene did not give the mood and atmosphere that I initially wanted. The weather and the type of clothes that my character is wearing have totally change the mood including the new haircut. The type of shots that I took was also different from my test shoot. I feel that the camera is getting too close to the character. It was too close such that the audience are able to see the character face quite clearly. It could be because of the short haircut that does not block the face completely. In the future, I should shoot further away. Below are some screenshot from the scenes.

This scene is overexposed and with the rest of my other scenes the sun is shining brightly thus ruining the initial atmosphere that I had in mind. However, I can make it work in post-production by doing colour grading. I could give a cool blue look throughout my scenes to give a cold and gloomy atmosphere.

too close

This is one of the scenes that I find that I was too close to the character. I feel that I should have step 5 more steps away so that I am keeping the distant feeling between the character and audience. This distant feeling will give a cold atmosphere on how the character is always alone and do not mix with people.

I would love to reshoot this scene because as much as this is an important scene, the place is aesthetically what I had in mind. I would prefer to shoot further away so I am hoping to shoot it from across the street so that it will be more of a wide shot. I will have to change the settings such that the interior of the café would not look overexposed.
