This weeks discussion was surrounding narrative…
What is it? How it is structured?
This TED talk takes things one step further and asks…
How are they viewed?
The talk enters into the history of storytelling and how it has evolved and broadened from the old fashioned book, to the internet. The example of social media explored this notion of progressing narrative technology but raises the question once again as to what is truly considered ‘narrative’.
In short narrative is a sequence of related events.
As we see the form of storytelling progressed from book, to picture, to then moving picture, and now even the internet one aspect remains the same through all these mediums.
The way Joe Sabia puts it, covers the art of viewing narrative perfectly
‘the art of storytelling has remained unchanged…but the way that humans tell the stories has always evolved with pure, consistent novelty’
