Expanding on what I had brainstormed earlier in the week this is what I have decided to go with. This is a draft of my final reflection,
As I am exploring the body I will be focusing specifically to exposure. I want to place emphasis on the feeling that comes along with exposure. My piece will tackle concepts such as vulnerability, intimacy, voyeurism as well as challenge the ongoing topic of place.
As our class has decided on the theme of obsession I thought this could be expressed through repetition.
Clip #1:
This clip would be my establishing shot of four people (2 male& 2 female) in minimal clothing (one on each screen). This shows exposure and intimacy through bare skin. As the clip lasts 8 seconds it also tackles the emotion of vulnerability. I want to film for at least 1 minute to allow this emotion of vulnerableness to sink in and then pick the best 8 seconds of it. The response I’m hoping for from my audience is a sense of voyeurism, the feeling that they shouldn’t be watching but want to see more. This response of voyeurism is something that I will be present through all clips. This also tackles the notion of public and private space. As being that ‘exposed’ in a public space is not considered acceptable, especially in the heart of the city, it challenges the notion of what is considered acceptable for the public space that I will be exhibiting.
Clip #2:
This will be a shot of all 4 people interacting with the bucket of paint and allowing them to become familiar with it. Slowly dipping their hands in and lifting them up while watching the paint drip through their fingers.
Clip #3:
This shot will consist of each individual covering their face and torso with paint. It further indulges the idea and response that comes with vulnerability. Once exposed especially in a public place the immediate response is to be covered. I also want to allow the individual to decide how to cover themselves as I feel this response by the individual will say a great deal about their vulnerabilities (e.g. how fast they cover themselves, where they decide to first cover, how much paint they use to cover). I feel by leaving some freedom within the guidelines of this assignment to the model I will be able to indulge into a less staged and more realistic response.
Clip #4:
The reverse. I will then reverse clip #3 and watch the paint slowly be wiped back off the body. The point of this being to challenge the notion of vulnerability that comes with exposure and intimacy. To challenge that initial feeling of voyeurism, and reconsider the boundaries of public/ private places and allow the audience to think deeper into these notions.
