Instead of our class this week we visited testing grounds at night.
We set up bon fires and brought together some food and drink.
What was it all for?
Projector packs!
We were lucky enough to get our hands on some really incredible technology. essentially it is a back pack that has a speaker and projector connected to it which allows you to project moving picture and sound on any surface while on the go.
This was an absolutely incredible experience. I was lucky enough to go in the second lot of groups which meant there were less of us per projector pack and I was able to interact more with the equipment.
We set off with two projector packs between four of us and begun projecting some of our past works onto the city of Melbourne. The most amazing part of it was activating spaces that are considered non places and making it a place. On street signs, in car parks, on various textures and materials.
As there were two projector packs we were able to overlap our footage and create what looked like a three dimensional moving image with overlapping sound.
By far the best experience was filling up the empty car park with light sound and life. What is usually a non place was converted into a place of exploration and experimentation. Testing new ways of displaying our works through staying still, twisting, moving slow and fast allowed us to take the creative reins of our work.
Words cannot describe what we created on this night… so here are some images of what we made…
