Project Brief 2 titled E/MOTION was inspired by the idea of time. Approaching this assignment I started to think about how quick the years go by and how different my life was as a child compared to now as an adult. Looking at old family photos and videos made me remember and reflect on all my past experiences, but more importantly, they showed how time influences our lives in the most subtlest of ways.
I used different effects and objects to portray time in my project. I found that clocks and travel (in this case cars) were the best ways to get my meaning across. Also using the speed editor to make the footage go faster or in reverse worked in getting the feeling of going back and forth in time. I also repeated certain clips several times throughout the video to give this idea and feeling of time is consistent but inconsistent at the same time. There is an order to things and patterns but is also very unpredictable. My childhood was an important part of my life and I attempted to incorporate that within the video in different formats. I’m happy with the way it turned out in regards to the aspects of past, present and future. Trying to incorporate my childhood in a unique way was challenging but satisfying in the end.
Reflecting on what I could improve on I think over time my editing skills will hopefully improve, adjusting to new software has been quite a challenge. My audio clips may be something I need to work on as well, and learn to naturally mix different sounds together that flow.
Overall, I’m pleased with the way it turned out, and looking back on my baby videos made for an entertaining afternoon.
