Deconstructing Federation Square Rough Cut

I did not get to show the class my rough cut but I had a plan as to how to move between a rough and fine cut.

I began by ordering my shots in a way that made sense to me and editing them into 5, 10, 15 and 20 second clips. I wanted my work to move quickly initially, then build, then shrink again. Upon finishing the edit this way I was over time and knew it needed refining—so I shortened the time of each clip and changed the flow from four clips in a sequence to five. This helped cut my work down and make it flow better. I then attached the music I made which I was very happy with. I asked family if they recognised it after they heard it (which no one did) which I took to mean I had successfully transformed ‘Here comes the sun’ into my own. I put some of my script into the work to test the response it got. I mostly used these words as place holders with plans to refine them.

Once I had my initial 5-minute work completed I marked where to include animation. I wasn’t ready to start this process because I was completely new to it, and went off gut feeling when placing the markers. I showed this to some friends, explaining what I planned to add and was encouraged to continue in this direction. I had to stop here because I was bed-bound for a few days but this gave me a more neutral place to start working on the fine edit.
