Take Test: Analysis / Reflection 5

Question 1:
Lighting was an integral element in all the shots of our film. We shot predominantly inside a room so we had full control over the different lighting configurations that we wanted and played around with different levels of brightness and shadow effects as well. We used a LED panel as a fill light for a few scenes and also a few strategically placed Dedo lights to emphasise the characters and the environment that they were in.

Question 2:
The Week 6 reading “Developing a Crew’ was an interesting reading that helped me to prepare for our day of filming and getting everyone organised together in their different roles. On location, we all came together to help each other with our different jobs and duties to ensure that the whole film shoot ran smoothly and we got all the shots we wanted. A few good points I took from the reading were to sort out the chain of command and have a few contingencies at the ready just in case. As it turned out, we had a minor problem on the day when it started to rain, but because we all worked together as a crew and understood what was needed to be done we were able to work around it complete the scene successfully.

Question 3:
Acting as the DOP for much of our shoot, I was able to gain a feel of what I thought the camera should be doing in relation to the actors as they moved around the frame. The great thing about our project was that collaboratively we could make suggestions respective to each other’s different area’s of responsibility and try out new idea’s. In the scene from ‘Blow Up’, the director quite clearly has a lot to think about in terms of actor direction and cinematography. Antonioni would have had to position the camera in such a way that frames the actors as they move through the scene. He then in turn would have to give the actors the direction to move in and out of frame as they progressed through the shot, ultimately building up to the main dialogue of the scene.
