Our Media Final Dream State is an interactive experience showcasing dreams and the dreaming (4D). We wanted to create an environment that elicits a dreamlike state in viewers that ignites the senses and pays homage to the hustling Melbourne City landscapes.. (but not limited to). Dream State is a collaborative experience that prompts viewers to reflect on their own dreams; while also finding solace in commonality, through other people’s perspective. Our inspiration for our set design stemmed from the Melbourne Museum’s ‘The Mind: Enter the Labyrinth’ Melbourne Museum’, and we ultimately wanted to emulate a ‘bedroom’ to enhance the dream-like state. Although our final exhibition was not entirely what we had envisioned due to the location / space for our piece, we managed to create a cosy and relaxed aesthetic. Through use of mood lighting, wholesome book furnishings, a lamp and a washing basket, we were able to create a really strong and immersive experience. Our video piece really complimented the subtle and relaxed bedroom room, and dividing walls really helped to create privacy and quietness from other groups’ exhibits. The interactive experience with use of the journal provided an engaging and collaborative experience, and sparked some lovely conversations with the audience/ viewers. Although we weren’t able to provide the exact experience we had originally planned, I am still very proud of our final exhibition. In future I think we could’ve made the viewing experience more intimate and private through bluetooth headphones and I think the outside noise detracted from our experience and caused a sense of overstimulation, but ultimately I think our visual cues were really powerful and strongly convey our message.

Our group worked really well throughout the semester, our communication and transparency was great and our ability to be resilient and respond to feedback proved our maturity to work as a team. I have gained knowledge and invaluable skills from learning from my two team members, and am really proud of the work we have created and submitted.
