EDITING EXPLAINED

‘We’ll fix it in the edit’. Is considered an ironic statement as editing is about demolition. It involves breaking apart the frames and reforming it to generate new meaning that the viewer can create. The Kuleshov effect was also introduced to our class, displaying that meaning can be communicated outside of the frame due to these gaps and our reactions of previous shots. Continuity is a major aspect of editing. It can display leaps in time using cuts or dissolve. However I now know that editing is about repurposing things for new meaning and its is that edited process that can produce closure within the film.
