from week 3’s reading ‘Blood in the gutter’ the art of comics was introduced to me.

The first idea presented is that our perception of reality is faith. I’ve never been over seas but I believe that there is a country in Europe called Croatia. Therefore in comics our perception can be linked to closure, ‘the agent of change, time and motion’. Shown through the gutter as our minds eye connects these images together to form a story looking past the white breaks. Linking comics to perception involves the reader consciously knowing that a comic is a mono-sensory medium. We can’t smell, taste or hear whats happening in the comics. Yet we can still interpret the story as participation which acts as a force of power.

Personally I’ve never been a comic book fan. However I understand and know of many comics as my brother is a comic fanatic. However after reading and analysing this weeks reading I now perceive the impact media can have on its viewer, how it can convey meaning through subtle and simple conventions. I also have a new appreciation for comics.
